NFL Draft Aftermath

Well, the NFL draft has come and gone for 2007. Am I supposed to feel a sense of longing or loss or grieving now that it has passed? I feel like I should based on the way that it is hyped by ESPN.

Well, now I am going to try and figure out how the New England Patriots fared. They ended up only having one pick on the first day, which is the first three rounds. Going in to the draft, they had 2 first round picks. They traded picks to trade down which is something that they perennially do.

However, the biggest thing that the Patriots did, had nothing to do with drafting at all. They acquired the talented but troublesome wide receiver from the Oakland Raiders, Randy Moss.

I do not yet know what to think of this deal. It could either be huge or a bust. I do not see any middle ground. I n my opinion, if Randy Moss is going to succeed anywhere, it will be with New England. They coaching staff does not deal with hyper-personalities. If you act out, you are gone. Simple as that. They have had success stories. You need look no further than Cory Dillon to see that it can work.

I hope that it does work out. I believe that if it does, then he can help them win a Super Bowl. That would be fabulous.

I do not want his time in New England to be emblematic of the old Randy Moss joke.

"What is the difference between Randy Moss and a dollar bill?"
"You can get four quarters out of a dollar."

I'm Back

Well, here I am. I prefer not to be rocked like a hurricane, though.

Recently I picked up a new computer game. It is called Lord of The Rings Online, LOTRO for short. It is the newest in the genre of Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game, MMORPG, more commonly referred to as MMO.

The only other online game that I have played is World of Warcraft. So, in comparing the two I have found some similarities and some differences.

For one thing, the leveling pace seems slower in LOTRO. In the same amount of time that it took me to hit level 15 in WoW I was maybe level 7 or so in LOTRO. This is not a bad thing necessarily. It just takes some getting used to.

Also, the crafting system is different. No longer do you get "skill-ups" just by mining the veins or gathering the wood. You, instead, get your skill points from smelting the ore or treating the wood.

The color of items in LOTRO is different than in WoW. In WoW, "purple" items were the epic items that required running through high end dungeons in order to get. In LOTRO, they have given just random drops from creatures the purple color. I am convinced that this was a cruel joke implemented just to torture the WoW people. I'm not saying I'm not laughing with it. I am.

In LOTRO I am also in a kinship called Exile. A kinship is the same thing as a guild in WoW. We called it Exile because it seemed appropriate. The few members that we have so far all have come from WoW. We were all in the same guild as well.

Well, that is all for now. I will write more later.

I'm Not Dead Yet

Hey there.

Just blogging in to report that I am still alive. I am, however, in Columbia, MO visiting with my wife this weekend. I will be posting new material starting around Tuesday of next week. Assuming of course that I am not going to be working like 16 hours a day at work.

I am currently working at 4th Street Live in Louisville, KY. There are a total of 3 new bars opening up in the next week or so. Angels Rock Bar, Tengo Sed Cantina, and Hotel.

More to come later.

A Time To Reflect

Well, I was going to post an upbeat story yesterday, but the events that went on at Virginia Tech has caused me to let a couple of days pass to properly mourn this terrible tragedy.

My heart goes out to everyone affected, including the shooter's parents.

May whatever invisible man that they worship, or not in some cases, give them comfort for awhile.

The NFL Drops the Hammer

So, the new National Football League commissioner, Roger Goodell, has brought the hammer down on “bad behavior”. He has suspended Adam ‘Pacman’ Jones for the entire 2007 season and Chris Henry for the first 8 games of the season.

Both have been involved in multiple instances of suspect behavior. Adam Jones, himself, has been involved/implicated in about 10 different cases. While he may have never been indicted on anything, just the fact that you have been in the wrong place at the wrong time 10 different times means bad things.

This is a list of all the incidents that Adam Jones has been involved in. Like the article says, and I tried to say above, there is only one charge against Jones. Like the ancient Chinese proverb says, "Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me".

I for one believe that the new commissioner is taking the appropriate and correct steps in dealing with unnecessary off the field behavior. It appears that the player’s union, the NFL Player’s Association, is in support of the new policy.

Added NFL Players Association executive director Gene Upshaw: "The NFL Players Association and the Player Advisory Council have been discussing this issue for several months. We believe that these are steps that the commissioner needs to take and we support the policy. It is important that players in violation of the policy will have the opportunity and the support to change their conduct and earn their way back."

The new player conduct policy of the NFL also will hold any NFL employee to the high standards of the league.

Now, some people are going to say that this policy goes too far. How can you be punished if you have not been convicted of anything yet in the US legal system? This may sound like a legitimate argument. However, I believe that the NFL is a private entity that can enforce its own rules. If you were working in the business world and had been involved in as many incidents as Adam Jones, you could probably expect to be fired. But, as with anything else I say, that is my opinion.

Well, let me know what you think. Do you agree with the new conduct policy from the NFL?

Binary People???

Witty T-shirts are always a winner for me. I purchased one last year at Conglomeration that has the slogan, "Intelligence is the ultimate aphrodisiac" on it. I love it.

To further the cause of witty t-shirts I off you the following picture. It is from a site called ThinkGeek. Go there. Check out what they have to offer. If you like watching the videos from this blog then you will almost assuredly like the offerings from ThinkGeek.

Jesus Will Kill The Easter Bunny????

In honor of the Christian holiday of Easter I am glad to offer you the following video courtesy of our friends at YouTube.

This is a clip from Robot Chicken and it is a parody of the Quentin Tarantino's movie Kill Bill. In this version sets out to kill the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus and George Burns, all the while being attacked by medieval-weapon-bearing Jews.

Enjoy.

Spiderman 3

Well, here I come again with another movie trailer courtesy of YouTube. This seems to be a recurring theme. Oh well, go with what works.
This movie is Spiderman 3 from Sony Pictures. Sam Raimi is again directing this movie as he has the first two movies. Tobey Maguire reprises his role as Peter Parker/Spiderman.
Also returning are Kirsten Dunst and James Franco.

In the 3rd flick of the Spiderman trilogy Peter Parker has finally managed to piece together the once-broken parts of his life, maintaining a balance between his relationship with Mary-Jane and his responsibility as Spider-Man.

But more challenges arise for our young hero. Peter's old friend Harry Obsourne has set out for revenge against Peter; taking up the mantle of his late father's persona as The New Goblin, and Peter must also capture Uncle Ben's real killer, Flint Marko, who has been transformed into his toughest foe yet, the Sandman.

All hope seems lost when suddenly Peter's suit turns jet-black and greatly amplifies his powers. But it also begins to greatly amplify the much darker qualities of Peter's personality that he begins to lose himself to. Peter has to reach deep inside himself to free the compassionate hero he used to be if he is to ever conquer the darkness within and face not only his greatest enemies, but also...himself.

The movie opens on May 4, 2007.

Enjoy the video.

This makes me laugh

Well, after having spent the better part of the last year and a half playing World of Warcraft, I can finally see the end of the tunnel. I can say this because I bought the expansion pack for Civilization 4. It is called Civ 4 Warlords. I bought it yesterday.

I bought Civ 4 when it came out. Like, within the first week of release. Civ has always been a favorite game of mine. Same with the SimCity series.

But, back to Civ 4. I just purchased the expansion pack like I said, so that means I have to learn what all has changed from the original. Traits have changed, buildings and units have been added. It's a lot to keep up with.

The point of this post is that I read a news article today that announces the 2nd expansion to Civ 4, Beyond The Sword.

Ughh. I mean, I am going to have to relearn new material again in July. Oh well, I will still buy it.

This is what I get for getting addicted to WoW.

Family Guy: Stewie & Brian

Well, here is another Family Guy video from YouTube. This one shows the interaction between Brian, the family dog, and Stewie, the family baby.
This video does come with some warnings, though. Brian has borrowed money from Stewie and this is Stewie trying to get his money back. It does get violent.
However, I am old enough and mature enough to understand that this is a cartoon, and in no way should this type of behavior ever be condoned.
If you feel you child may be influenced by this video, just remember that it is your job as a parent to teach and guide your children.

Well, enjoy the video.
